The Grand Jury Report frequently expressed shock, horror, and disgust at what a filthy place Gosnell ran. I'll bring some examples to show that Gosnell wasn't unique. I'm cutting and pasting from other pages. I'll clean up the formatting later. What you need right now is information. Some of these are just links and snippets to give you an idea what the links lead to. Others are just summaries of findings, and list their original sources.

At Hedd Surgi-Center, inspectors found poor sanitation and infection control, unlicensed and unqualified staff, out of date medications, mold on the breathing tubes, and mouse droppings in the operating room. A revocation agreement barred Hedd from performing any procedures but abortions. Chicago Tribune 2-8-91

**Peeking Into an Abortionist's Fridge**
Abortionist Benjamin P. Thamrong had some of the strangest stuff in his refrigerator. And lest you dismiss Thamrong as a fly-by-night flake, he was operating under the auspices of the Women's Health Organization -- which was a National Abortion Federation member.

**Ronachaie Banchongmanie**
Gosnell's place had cat turds lying about. Banchongmanie had human feces left in the stairwell.

**See For Yourself**
Operation Rescue bought the building that housed Central Women's Services in Wichita, Kansas, and evicted the business. See for yourself what they found inside.

Holy oilpans, Batman!

external image Carhart%27s+Mill.JPGLeRoy Carhart's abortion mill looks like a freaking transmission shop! It was next door to a body shop, so you can tell that this neighborhood isn't exactly the high-rent district, and certainly isn't full of medical practices. And if you check out the video, you can see that the brickwork in the building is of a car. And not just a car -- an old jalopy. Oh -- and this high class joint is a member of the illustrious National Abortion Federation:

I know these guys are prone to running tacky practices. Scott Barrett, who killed Stacy Ruckman, ran his abortion mill in the basement of a used car dealership. But I can still never get used to it.

Abortionist Curtis Stover filed an affidavit stating that he vomited after observing abortionist James Parks' method of disposing of aborted fetuses of 15 to 22 weeks gestation: he ground them up with a standard kitchen meat grinder and flushed the tissue down the sink. In a letter to the health department, Stover stated that Parks told him he had developed this method because the fetuses would "stop up" the toilet and because he did not want fetuses retrieved from the trash by pro-lifers. “Back-Alley” Abortionist May Lose Medical License if KSBHA Can Find Courage to Act

KC police detective’s investigation reveals shocking conditions: non-sterile surgical equipment, roaches, and even allegations of cannibalism. But will the information be enough to close the facility?

Topeka, Kansas — The Kansas State Board of Healing Arts (KSBHA) will decided the fate of abortionist Krishna Rajanna at a hearing on April 23. The Board is considering permanently revoking his medical license in light of reports of continuously filthy conditions at his Kansas City abortion mill and disturbing allegations of cannibalism there.
In his written testimony, Detective Howard noted Rajanna had an unkempt appearance, whose hands were dirty and clothing stained. But if Rajanna’s personal hygiene left something to be desired, his abortion mill was worse. Detective Howard states:
“The clinic was dirty inside. As we proceeded through the facility I noted the back area was very dark and dingy looking with poor lighting and smelling musty. We entered the ‘break room’ to interview Rajanna. There were dirty dishes in the sink and on the tabletop, trash everywhere, and roaches crawling across the countertops, with a smell of a stench in the room. Frankly, I was reluctant to sit down. I noted there weren’t containers for medical waste with universally recognized hazardous waste labels on them. On the way out my partner observed that the ‘procedure room’ was filthy. He told me that he saw dried blood on the floor and the room looked ‘nasty’ to him This general lack of a professional and sanitary environment starkly contrasted with all my experiences inside other doctor offices.”

Blue Coral Medical Center
Blue Coral Medical Center was temporarily shut down under an emergency order describing "deplorable conditions," including:
  • a suction device with "green mold" growing in it
  • improperly discarded bloodstained sponges
  • generally poor infection control
  • about 70 different kinds of medication with expired dates
  • unsafely administered general anesthesia
  • stirrups covered with blood
  • untrained workers monitoring women in recovery

Ghali also worked at Miami's notorious Dadeland abortion mill, where his quackery contributed to the death of abortion patient Ellen Williams.

An inspector was quoted as saying, "When we got there, there wasn't any soap in the place, so our inspectors had to go next door to wash their hands." Blue Coral's owner, Nabil Ghali, had already had his medical license revoked in Florida and Kentucky due to a conviction for having sex with his 14-year-old goddaughter. Blue Coral was re-opened under stipulations. Sources: Miami Herald 9-28-89, 1-4-90

Dr. Joe Bills Reynolds was a jack of all trades, doing a variety of elective surgeries, including safe and legal abortions, in his filthy clinic. Reynolds' anesthetist, age 60, had originally been hired as a janitor, and an untrained orderly was acting as his nurse. The operating room was littered with dirty cups and papers. Reynolds tried to collect $500,000 on his wife's life insurance after she bled to death after he opened 25-inch incision, ostensibly for liposuction, on September 7, 1989. Reynolds was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter. He voluntarily surrendered his Oklahoma license. Source: The Daily Oklahoman 4-22-91

Ladies First Medical Center
Ladies First Medical Center was temporarily closed by the board of health in 1989 "after finding dead cockroaches in a sterilizing room, unsanitary surgical gloves, expired drugs and bloody equipment." Inspectors also noted:
  • "Bloody equipment, though abortions had not been performed in the two days before the inspection"
  • a mop that reeked of dried blood in the sterilizer room
  • no hot water and no soap at the clinic's sinks
  • a device that is inserted into patients' noses during general anesthesia was found on the floor, still hooked to a hose that had been used on a patient
  • supposedly sterile gauze pads that were stained yellow
  • patient records left in plain view
  • dirty socks on recovery room shelf
  • "hundreds of medicines and medical supplies that had expired years ago and other medications with no expiration date, indicating they were manufactured before 1978"
The Health Secretary described Ladies First as "just filthy, the worst I've seen." One of the inspectors told a reporter, "I spent years inspecting clinics in prisons all through Florida. And we wouldn't have waited a minute to close a prison clinic long before it ever looked this bad. I couldn't believe how bad this place was." A reporter allegedly called Ladies First and spoke with cleaning woman who said "I think the charges are really exaggerated. We did the best we can. It's not really that bad, the way they say it." Ladies First was re-opened under stipulations.

A July 17, 1991 inspection of **Lawson Akpulonu's** facility had found:

  • "Filthy rest room with no tiolet paper"
  • "Reports of unsterile instruments being used in operating room"
  • Fumes perservering after anesthesia
  • No registered nurse at the facility
  • Akpulonu performing abortions alone, with no assistant
  • "No scrub room and inadequate supply of gowns and gloves"
  • Blood on floor and curtains of the operating room
  • The facility was operating with an expired license
  • Blood specimins were discarded rather than sent to a lab for testing

**Judge Orders Midtown Hospital Closed**
A Fulton County judge shut down Georgia's biggest abortion provider based on state claims that Atlanta's Midtown Hospital is so filthy and badly run that patients' lives are endangered there every day. Midtown was a National Abortion Federation member.

Post-Legalization Abortion Practice: Is this an Improvement?
The beds in the recovery room had soiled sheets and blankets except for two reddish-stained beds with no covers on them at all.

A woman described her legal abortion by Joseph Rucker. She arrived at 10:30 AM for her appointment, but Rucker didn't arrive until 5 PM. His "eyes were swollen, with big circles around them. And he had these fingernails that were a half-inch long." Rucker walked into the room, did not speak to the woman but just began to examine her then instructed an aide, "Knock 'em down." The woman awoke in recovery. A woman, later identified as Rucker's wife, "comes in. She's wearing a halter top and shorts, and she starts sticking me in the arm, trying to get some blood." The woman's fiance reported that a dog was let into the operating room. The dog sniffed at the woman as she lay bleeding and lapped blood off the floor. When the fiancee complained, Rucker snarled at him, "That dog lives here. This is my house, and that is my dog. That dog can go anywhere in this clinic that he damned well pleases."
